About oven

Kinds of oven:

  • broiler — an oven or part of a stove used for broiling
  • Dutch oven — n oven consisting of a metal box for cooking in front of a fire
  • gas oven — a domestic oven fueled by gas
  • kiln — a large oven for firing or burning or drying such things as porcelain or bricks
  • rotisserie — an oven or broiler equipped with a rotating spit on which meat cooks as it turns
Types of oven

Electric

Electric ovens are powered by electricity and offer a variety of functions including top, bottom, rear and grill elements.

Pros

  • More versatile than gas due to the multi-functions
  • Lower price range than gas ovens

Cons

  • Some say they take longer to heat than gas

Gas

You must have access to a natural gas outlet to install a gas oven. A gas oven can have electronic controls and electric grill.

Pros

Easy to heat up

Cons

Dangerous when often blown by the wind

Built-in

Built-in ovens are built-in to the wall or under the bench.

Pros

  • Provide location flexibility – built-in ovens don't have to sit under the cooktop
  • Can be positioned at a height to suit you

Cons

  • Some built-in ovens take up more bench space than freestanding ovens

Freestanding

As the name suggests, freestanding ovens are appliances in their own right that don't need a bench or wall to operate.

Pros

  • Take up no bench space
  • Can be situated anywhere in the kitchen – they don't depend on a bench or wall for support

Cons

  • May not be suitable for some small kitchens where floor space is precious

Double oven

A double oven is two separate ovens sitting either on top or alongside one another, but operating as one.

Pros

  • Great for cooking lots of different foods (for example, baking a cake in one and grilling meat in the other)

Cons

  • Expensive
  • Use more energy than a single oven

Extra wide

Most oven manufacturers make extra-wide ovens, which are available built-in or freestanding.

Pros

  • They look stylish
  • Perfect for batch cooking and cooking for large families

Cons

  • Expensive

Microwave oven

A microwave oven uses microwave radiation to cook food. They are available as a freestanding unit to be placed on benchtop or shelf.

Pros

  • Cooks food at a much faster speed than regular ovens
  • Least expensive oven option
  • Take up little space
  • Useful tool in addition to a regular oven

Cons

  • The quality of cooking is not as high as with regular ovens
  • Not suitable for cooking large portions

What is a multifunction oven?

This simply means that the oven has more than one function, in fact, all of the functions you will require to suit your cooking needs.

These functions vary between models. The oven shelves are numbered 1-5 and are counted from the base of the oven. This positioning is only a guide for fan forced cooking.

Cleaning

The smooth enamel baked at the highest temperatures will be the easiest to clean. Pyrolytic cleaning ovens and catalytic liners are also available but attention to care instruction is important for best efficiency of operation.

Ask about the cleaning features of ovens, they are many and varied from removable grill reflector plates, to lift-up hobs on upright ovens and easy clean black enamel gas burner rings. Look for these features they will make a huge difference in maintaining the appearance of your new purchase.

Safety Features to look for:-

  1. Check for smooth finish to the appliance - no sharp corners or sharp metal edges.

  2. Avoid accidents by ensuring the racks don’t drop down when pulled forward and that they have rear stoppers to prevent them sliding straight out.

Ask the Manufacturer or Retailer for any general or technical information regarding the appliance of your choice. Today’s appliance buyers are discerning and their enquiries are welcomed.

Also consider the warranty conditions and the Service and Spare Parts availability.

ELBA, FISHER & PAYKEL?

When i came across the site of elba i noticed in my tabbed browsing " Fisher and Paykel appliances" I was so shocked because fisher and paykel and La germania holds the same brand here in the philippines, does this mean that elba is a sister company of La Germania.

The History:

1950. The Company was established in 1950 by ELIO BAGGIO, as a family business, in the village of Marostica (Vicenza province). Elio was the son of entrepreneur, Pio Baggio, who owned various activities, such as building materials (bricks), pottery and quarriyng.

1950-1959. The initial main business was the operation of an enamelling plant, as a sub-contractor, along with a small production of wood/coal stoves for cooking/heating purposes. The plant gradually became very specialized in enamelling body components of stoves and cookers , bath tubs, sinks etc. required by major manufactures of the north of Italy, like Zanussi, Zoppas, Fargas.

They started at 1950 then 1960 Ariston started their production but La germania started their productions at 1906 therefore la germania is superior to those 2 brands

Comments:

electric oven not working on our elba excellance oven. Thermo has been replaced but oven worked for 1 day then went again. What is the problem please?

By sales629 on Jul 06, 2009

Okay so here's my comment. Elba seems to have no comments inside the net so if your considering to buy one just be sure to gather enough resources but if your to asked me i would still go for La germania because its superior in terms of quality they are 60 years ahead than the two companies, Always pick in these two "Quality or warranty", "Design or Durability" I know that the two options goes to la germania that is Quality and Durability, Because Elba, Ariston and Indesit has enormous design but you are only buying the design for that and dont get too blind with designs, criticize the product. When it started and what are their resources.

Oh and i figured out that Fisher and Paykel, La germania and Viking holds then same company here in the Philippines so La germania and Elba are sister companies? because fisher and paykel holds Elba products.

Kinds of stainless steel

Stainless, what is a stainless by the way? is it worth buying with? is it high grade or just local? This is the most common questions of us customers, well for me unfortunately i dont know about stainless, all i know is when you say stainless it wont get rusty, but its not just it. I did some research about this stainless steel word and found out this:

Stainless steel
- also known as inox steel or inox, is defined as a steel alloy with a minimum of 10.5[1] or 11% chromium content by mass
- Stainless steel does not stain, corrode, or rust as easily as ordinary steel (it stains less, but it is not stain-proof)

Source

I only heard that " inox " word on La germania, Like g550inox and g710x "x-stands for inox". Okay so now we know that stainless still rust but now easily, so if anyone out door says that stainless is a rust proof, You are absolutely definitely wrong! Ok move on to the next part, when i bought my la germania gas range i only heard # 302 and # 304 stainless steel so what does it mean?

#302 stainless steel

- Same corrosion resistance as 304, with slightly higher strength due to additional carbon

# 304 stainless steel
- The most common grade; the classic 18/8 stainless steel. Also referred to as "A2"

Hmmm.... So it doesnt mean that the higher the number the higher the quality, 302 has higher strength than 304. Stainless steel 302 also known as inox.

La germania's turn!

Well honestly here in the philippines La germania rings a bell in fact a church bell! lol, well since i was a kid my mother likes to buy a la germania gas stove and it will last for at least 5 years "if i remember correctly" before she will buy another one again. La germania and standard are the most trusted brand here in the philippines but they differ in many ways. Standard has so many products, they dont focus on one product at all. While in La germania they only focus theyre product quality on gas stoves and specially on gas range.

Here is the history of La Germania:

Over a hundred years ago, Italian machine-maker Francesco Bertazzoni and his son Antonio first saw wood-burning cooking stoves arrive in their town on the railway from Austria. They decided to make their own – just for local use to begin with, and in very small quantities. It was the start of an outstanding success story.

The family built their first factory in 1909. After the First World War, they began making cooking stoves on a much larger scale, and launched the new brand name, La Germania. The Bertazzonis introduced their first gas hob units in 1953, soon followed by their first gas stoves. The design was further perfected in 1958 with the addition of an oven.

Exports started in 1959, and through the next decades sales boomed. Today La Germania cookers are appreciated in 60 countries around the world. But the makers never forget their roots in the traditions of Italian style, and that they remain specialists in the very personal craft of cooking.

Source: www.Lagermania.com.it

Well after seeing they're site I'm impressed, they still have their picture on their site and they started on 1909? Wow! it was 100 years old! and they still got theyre first logo which was published on 1912. I wonder were Francesco Bertazzoni and his son in the picture.

Comments on La germania:

Hull, England, UK, January 19 2009 (PressReleasePoint) - Kitchen Science is pleased to announce that it has struck up a relationship with Italian range cooker experts La Germania. Since December 2008, La Germania’s superb range of professional range cookers has featured on the Kitchen Science Website.

Okay so thats it, I think LA germania wins it, its still the best when it comes to gas range and oven. So for you out there, dont settle for anything less. Just always remember dont get the unknow brand, or else you will have headaches like i did. Now im going to buy a La germania gas range, now i know the truth, i will not be pursuaded by sweet talks of any Sales person.

Fabriano?

Well today i should be blogging about fabriano brand. But unfortunately i found nothing, not even their websites nor comments about them.

Fabriano remains a mystery to me, who created this company, where did it come from, how come i havent seen any websites or brand regarding a fabriano name. Upon visiting some sites, i think that fabriano, indesit and ariston are sister company because when i searched fabriano, some of the indesit and ariston brand shows on the google search.

So i went to the mall to asked about a brand named fabriano, well the sales person says that
it is an italy brand " but how come i havent seen any websites "
it is heavy duty equipment that would last 10 years " lol, just like an ariston brand but lasted only 3 years"
it's the 3rd place of the 3 gas range Indesit, Ariston, Fabriano " lol just as i thought same 3 brand"
So i asked the salesman where this fabriano is manufactured? "He said in the philippines. But the parts are from italy. Having a 1 year warranty on all parts. Again i would not recommend this one. why? here is the reason:

1. No website was found

2. No customers comment

3. Havent seen any product on the net

4. Dont know where it started and when it started

5. Selected malls only have this brand

6. Selected service centers

7. Same brand as ariston, indesit and GE.

Indesit or Inde"shit"

Well I have discussed about the ariston product, lets move on to the next product shall we? Today i am going to blog about the brand called "Indesit" what it is? where did it come from?

Indesit Company is Europe’s second biggest producer of home appliances by market share. It leads the market in Italy, the UK, Russia, Portugal, Romania, Bulgaria and the Ukraine and is one of the leaders in France, Poland, Turkey, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Greece. Founded in 1975 by the current chairman Vittorio Merloni and listed on the Milan stock exchange since 1987, the Group posted sales of €3.2 billion in 2008, having turned out 15 million appliances (washing machines, dryers, washer-dryers, dishwashers, fridges, freezers, ovens and hobs). Indesit Company operates through 17 production facilities (Italy, Poland, the UK, Russia, Turkey and China) and 24 commercial branches worldwide and has 17,000 employees. The Group’s main brands are Indesit, Hotpoint-Ariston and Scholtès.

Source - Indesit.com -

They said they was the second, who was the first? so i researched more and found out that the worlds leading brands in kitchen appliances is La germania.

Comments about all Indesit products

DO NOT BUY! - bought one 4 years ago and (thankfully) was talked into the
extended warranty for a further £189.00. Glad we did.
Engineer has been out 4 times.

1)compressor failure
2)frostfree drain blocked with mastic (manufacturing fault) upsetting
running,
3)re-circulating fan failure due to ice build up
4)Failure of circuit board and electrical feed to compressor - because
the back is foam filled, no remedial work could be carried out, the
freezer is being replaced by Indesit! Here`s to another 4 years of spoilt
food!

It matters not how good the deal appears, believe me, long term it is not
at any price. I`d recommend walking away

Has to be one of the worst washing machines,we have ever owned......... i kid you not!!!
Noisy, sore on electric, and take forever with your clothes.....
Er indoors, has to play with it (the washing machine!)to get it to go.ie.....
1.She selects a program....so far so good
2.Puts powder,conditioner etc in the drawer...looking good...
3.She pushes the power button, and holds her breath...
4.Red light flashes a couple of times ....and..
5. It starts to fill, then slowly turns left, then right......yippee,its alive!
6.It drains, and timer knob goes around and around and around,click....click......click......click......click.......click........c lick......
Does this sound like yours???
This is the third timer card in just over a year. The first two thankfully where under warranty, but why would you want to spend £100 on a repairman-fix when a new reliable Candy or hotpoint can be bought from curry's for about £170...

My advice for what its worth,,,,don't touch an Indesit WI101...UNLESS of course you're loaded!!!

When I bought this cursed machine 5 years ago, I was not so bothered about the price of the product than of the appearance and features. However, since purchase it has had to have the bearings replaced, the entire drum unit and bearings were changed within 2 years of purchase, the door hinge has also been replaced once, and it has had a new electric motor following an internal water pipe coming loose and spraying the entire workings with water. Also the kick-plate trim fell off as the lugs holding it to the machine had snapped, and finally the on-off button popped out one day and i couldnt glue it back on. During one of the engineers many visits I was told.

With very little use (I live alone!) my machine broke down after 13 months. A local engineer who charged me £5 to visit confirmed that the bearings had gone and it was not worth fixing. Rang Indesit and they told me to look at my warranty details and they stood by the terms. They offered to send one of their engineers but would charge me £69.98 to do so! They confirmed that even if their engineer confirmed it was a write off they still wouldn't give me a new one. They would however give me a courtesy discount off a new Indesit! .... Like I'd ever ever touch Indesit again!

I really believe that companies like this deserve to go out of business. They wreak of corruption and I hope that all their personnel wear masks - after all, Dick Turpin wore one!

I spoke to my local engineer who advised that the machine was not of merchantable quality as bearings take three to six months to go on a washing maching. He advised me to go to Fair Tradings. However, as Indesits warranty conditions are tighter than .... Well, let's say it's tight .... they told me it could take years to get satisfaction. So, instead, I've opted to recommend to all you lovely purchasers out there to NEVER EVER BUY AN INDESIT. In my opinion - they are the worst machines in the world and built to fail so you have to buy new ones 13 months after you've purchased!

INDESIT in my opinion are CROOKS! DO NOT BUY INDESIT!

I have now bought a lovely new washing machine ... needless to say, it's NOT an INDESIT!!!!

Regards
Sally

Following my story earlier this year about my FrostFree Hotpoint freezer, I did go back to the retailer, Curry's, quoting the Saqle of Goods act, and they told me that they would indeed replace the freezer PROVIDED I paid myself for an independant report from an engineer stating that it was unfit for purpose.
I could see another 50 quid or so going down the tubes, so have done nothing further. I have now bought a replacement freezer, highly recommended by a local supplier (not one of the big chains). It seems excellent, has better insulation and is obviously a more soundly constructed product that the Hotpoint, and cost £100 less than I paid for the Hotpoint.
To reiterate what I said previously, Hotpoint/Indesit are an appalling company and I will do all I can to ensure that no one I know ever, ever buys one of their products again.
They deserve to go out of business and the sooner the better.

Had mine (WD865) just over 3 years. Had 6 call outs - all related to dryer. Talking to Hotpoint (Indesit) is like talking to a brick wall!
DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM THIS COMPANY - IT WILL BE INDE-SHIT!

not sure if this helps any:

but i bought an Ariston (same as Indesit) from Currys and exactly a year later (within days) the bearings went in the drum !

luckily i did buy the warranty (sorry i know that doesnt help) - but it does seem a little strange...

also - these "bearings" are parts they carry on the van at all times - i dont think they are made to last.....

if i were u i would threaten with watchdog etc, n tell them u hav details of someone whose machine had same prob exactly a year later etc etc, (if u mail me u can hav my details to giv them)

am sure they wont want the adverse publicity - n stick to your guns !

good luck

Do not buy and inde-shit product, why? here's why

1. Too many problems

2. Consumers are having headache purchasing this brand

3. Worst of the 3 brands ranging " Indesit, Ariston, Fabriano"

4. Too many comments from small items to big items

5. Selected malls have this

6. Selected service centers

7. Very few available materials

8. Some of the equipment are hard to find

9. Burner cams are thin, easy to break

10. Same as Ariston brand - Worst brand

I haven't tried out indesit yet so i based my comments on other people comments, and i do not want to try it lol!

Okay thats it for now. Found out this morning that GE, ARISTON, INDESIT, FABRIANO are all the same corporation here in the philippines so next blog i will be discussing about fabriano. And look out in these brands you might got a headache if you buy one. Just heed my warning and read other comments before buying something from them.

Ariston Worst product!

First of all Ariston brands doesnt ring a bell in my ear, well specially here in the philippines, I am maore familiar with La germania. I want to buy a gas range worth of my money then a sales person of Ariston came into me and said this is the most trusted brand although its not that well known, his sales talk make me convince to buy a ariston gas range. In his demo i remember he said this:

The burner caps are thick that why it wont burnt out that easily,
It is a satainless steel back and front
It is well known in the itay

So i buy the
Ariston RGA620 at the first consecutive months it was okay, but the problem began when the igniter in the oven wont function. I thought it was odd since I had barely used the oven. The store where I bought it send a technician out and he had it fixed in no time. Now, at most 3 years later, it went again. The enamel coated began to detach in 5 months without even scratching it, it is under warranty so i called up the technician but their tech said tha it is not covered in the worranty! holy *#@*#!!!. Now the right feet of the gas range began to wiggle so I put a wood in the right feet so it will become balance everytime i use it. Everytime i cook it gives me a hard time to ignite the burner so i buy a gun lighter or whatever you call it.

I put the gas range to rest so now im going to buy again but i will not be pursuaded by sweet talks this time i will become wise. So i do a researched and i found out this:
Compared the Ariston and La germania.

This is my comment: http://www.epinions.com/content_475209371268

Ariston

The name Ariston began in 1960 and is known by its consumers as one of the biggest leading brands that makes life more comfortable and technically elevated not only in Italy but all around the world. A lot of care has always been taken in its design, in its innovation and in respecting the environment. A few modifications have been made to the logo in the past, like the one we are proposing now: a way of always being able to satisfy the needs of an ever changing environment.

Ariston Products

we've got an ariston range cooker, had it for 2 years now, can't fault it.
- arthur

Had an Ariston built in oven, it was rubbish.
So it's luck of the draw.

- poubelle

Bought a new Ariston self-cleaning oven with touch controls in March this year.
Have had to have the display unit changed twice as the "voyants" disappear one by one ......... and it's happening again for the third time.
......and our new Ariston microwave does NOT switch off if you open the door during operation!

Ariston have not got a good name in the UK, also bear in mind that the smaller the boiler the more jammed in all the components are and the problems this causes during maintainance.

Ariston is a terrible brand and this model in particular has had nothing but problems for us. I wouldn't recommend this washer/dryer to my worst anybody.

Read this site:

http://www.manualsonline.com/ex/mfg/headline/m/ariston/type/product_problem

Now i know that the ariston is not that kind of heavy duty equipment, although some of their manufactured products are good but more of them have problems, even on the dishwasher up to gas range.

So If anyone out there is seeing my blog or wanted to buy a equipment, do not bother to buy an ariston and dont get caught by sweet talks just like me. Feed yourself on the infos here in my blog. Just always remember if you dont want headaches, do not buy an ariston product.

And also i found out that ariston and Ge holds the same company here in the phil thats why its so lame, well if your looking for a ref a personally suggests panasonic rather than GE. Same crap like ariston. "Had a GE ref too. but i will discuss it on a different blog"

I would not recommend buying this kind of crap because:

1. Personally i tested it and it gave me headaches

2. Porcelaine coated easily detached

3. Oven igniter sometimes not working

4. Feet are easy to loose

5. Stainless on the outside but rusted on the inside

7. Electric ignition broken switch to gun lighter

8. Hard to clean

9. Easily broken

10. Too many comments on the net

11. Worst comments on the net from small item to big items.

12. Many people does not recommend this brand

13. Selected malls only have this brand

14. Selected service centers

15. Materials are hard to find.

16. Burner caps are hard to burn but durable when it fall it breaks.

17. Burner caps are expensive and ariston burner caps are easy to break

And lastly thank you ariston for giving me headaches from your products, now i have the guts to make this blog to warn all consumers out there who would want to take your product. If anyone is reading this, heed my warning DO NOT BUY AN ARISTON PRODUCT! especially GASRANGE!!!!
